Nicole Roundy

Personal

The name Nicole means “victorious” and perhaps that is what has driven her to excel. In 1994, at just eight years old, Roundy was diagnosed with osteogenic sarcoma, a form of bone cancer. After aggressive chemo therapy treatment, she chose to amputate her right leg above-the-knee. As a young adult, she participated in local sport programs, including volleyball and basketball but never embraced one sport over the other. In 2002 she was introduced to three track skiing. While she loved the adrenaline and excitement, something was missing. It became her goal to defy the “impossible,” and learn to snowboard. In 2006, she became the first above-knee amputee to compete in para snowboarding. Nicole's passion does not stop on the snow. In 2012, she received a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management and pursued a seasonal career in the outdoor industry. In 2014, she competed at first Paralympic Games for Team USA...Daughter of Jerald and Brenda Roundy...Has five siblings, three sisters and two brothers: Janell, Monica, DeAnne, Michael and Jonathan...She credits Dutch Para-snowboarder, Bibian Mentel as the most influential person in her career...Names U.S. tennis player, Billie Jean King as her idol...Hobbies include CrossFit, yoga, sport shooting and drinking coffee...Freelances as an email marketing expert and front-end coder...Has competed in wakeboarding...Favorite candy is Tootsie Rolls Frooties...She is a motivational speaker and an advocate for both The National Ability Center and The Challenged Athletes Foundation.
