The U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee is actively working to deliver a smooth transition for America’s elite Surfing athletes and coaches. The USOPC will continue to provide U.S. Olympic surfers and national team athletes with support and funding – including but not limited to medical and wellness, training and competition support – to ensure America’s surfers have the resources they need to excel on and off the field of play in the lead up to the Olympic Games Paris 2024 and beyond. The USOPC is aware of USA Surfing’s infrastructure and the complexities that come with this kind of transition. While there are still details to be determined, we will diligently work with athletes and coaches to ensure the right plans are in place to maintain continuity and holistic athlete support during the transition.

Without a National Governing Body for surfing, the USOPC assumes immediate oversight on an interim basis of the Surfing high-performance program in the US. That program is spelled out in the existing USA Surfing high-performance plan and will be adapted to ensure U.S. surfers have the support needed to support sustained competitive excellence and well-being.

As part of that oversight, the USOPC is responsible for ensuring the fair selection of Surfing athletes and teams for USOPC delegation events, including the Olympic Games and Pan American Games. The USOPC will remain in that role until an organization has been identified to assume that responsibility as an NGB. The USOPC is prepared to identify and help build a great culture for current and future generations of American surfers.

The USOPC was deeply involved in USA Surfing’s high-performance planning and has recently provided much of its funding. The USOPC will continue to provide financial and operational support for elite Surfing athletes.
