Biographical Information
John Shuster's passion for curling began at the age of 12, following his early exposure to the sport through his father, Tom, a league curler. A Minnesota native, Shuster attended Minnesota High School and went on to achieve an Associate of Arts at Hibbing Community College as well as a Bachelors of Business Administration in Marketing at University of Minnesota-Duluth.
In addition to curling, Shuster co-owns the Duluth FC soccer team, which competes in the National Premier Soccer League. Shuster's interest in Soccer began while he was hosting players from the team, and he later became involved in team ownership. He also enjoys spending time with his family, which includes his two children, both competitive swimmers.
Olympic Highlights
John Shuster's Olympic career began at the Turin 2006 Olympic Games, where he earned a bronze medal in men's curling. After competing again at the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Games and Sochi 2014 Olympic Games, Shuster went on to win the gold medal in men’s curling at the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Games. At the 2022 Beijing Olympics, Shuster was one of the flag bearers for Team USA and his team finished 4th.
World Championship Highlights
Shuster has competed in multiple world curling championships, including 2003, 2005, 2006 and 2009. His achievements at these championships include significant placements, contributing to his status as a leading U.S. curler.
U.S. Championship Highlights
Shuster’s accomplishments in U.S. curling include winning the 2004 U.S. Junior Curling Championship and 2009 U.S. Curling Championships, which qualified him for the 2010 Winter Olympics.
Early Career
Shuster’s early career in curling began in high school, where he led his team to victory in the Minnesota High School Championships in 1999. He continued his development in the junior circuit, securing Minnesota State Junior Championship titles in 2002 and 2004. His experience and results at the junior level paved the way for his entry into the national and international curling arenas.
