Biographical Information
Aileen Geving (formerly Aileen Sormunen) is a curler from Duluth, Minnesota. She began curling at age 10, influenced by her parents, and joined the Duluth Curling Club's junior program. Aileen played for the University of Minnesota Duluth before advancing to national and international competition. She also balances her curling career with work in the insurance industry in Duluth.
Olympic Highlights
At the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Games, she competed as a member of the U.S. women's curling team, finishing eighth overall. During the Beijing 2022 Olympic Games, Geving also competed with the women’s team, finishing in sixth place. Her consistent presence at the highest level of competition has cemented her position as a key player in U.S. curling, despite the team not advancing to the medal rounds in either Games.
World Championship Highlights
Geving, along with teammates Tabitha Peterson, Nina Roth, Becca Hamilton and Tara Peterson made history at the 2021 World Women’s Curling Championship, winning the first ever world women’s curling bronze medal for the United States.
Early Career
Aileen’s competitive curling journey began in her early teens, competing in local junior tournaments. At 13, she and her team took third place at the junior nationals, a notable achievement for her age. She continued progressing, joining the U.S. Junior Team as an alternate at 14. Over the years, Aileen and her teammates built experience by competing in various junior and national events, ultimately leading to her participation in the U.S. Olympic Trials.
