Tori Franklin grew up in Downers Grove, Illinois, outside of Chicago, excelling in basketball and track and field in high school. She attended Michigan State University for Track and Field, where she competed in the triple jump, long jump, high jump and 400-meter throughout her four-year college career.
Franklin is a four-time national champion in the triple jump and made her Olympic debut at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 where she did not advance to the 12-person final. A year later, at the World Athletics Championships held in Eugene, Franklin, she became the first American woman to ever win a medal in triple jump.
Off the track, Franklin is very open about her struggles with mental health throughout her career. Franklin has lived abroad for long stretches for her training and she opened a non-profit, the Live Happii Project, in her hometown of Chicago that focuses on taking inner-city youth on international trips to learn about different cultures.
