Nick Mayhugh is a distinguished para athlete known for his achievements in both soccer and track and field. A diagnosis of cerebral palsy at age 14 set him on a path to becoming one of the most versatile and accomplished para-athletes in the world.
Mayhugh competed on the U.S. men’s Paralympic soccer team, then transitioned to track and field and excelled at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.
Passionate about giving back to his community and supporting youth in athletics, Mayhugh delivered a commencement speech at his alma mater in addition to visiting local schools, hospitals and athletic teams.
Mayhugh made a stunning debut at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games. Competing in the T37 classification, he captured three gold medals in the 100-meter final, 200-meter final and the 4x100-meter universal relay final, setting world records in both the 100-meter (10.95 seconds) and 200-meter (21.91 seconds).
He competed in the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games in both long T38 long jump and T138 100-meter, placing 5th and 7th respectively.
Mayhugh achieved success at the 2023 World Para Athletics Championships when he secured a bronze medal in the T38 100-meter event.
In 2019, as a member of the U.S. men's Paralympic soccer team, Mayhugh played a key role in leading the team to a historic bronze medal at the Parapan American Games, marking the first time the U.S. had ever medaled in this event. His outstanding performance was further recognized when he was honored as U.S. Soccer Player of the Year with a Disability.
Diagnosed with cerebral palsy as a teenager, Mayhugh refused to let the condition limit his ambitions. Supported by his family and coaches, Mayhugh’s early years were filled with hard work and resilience, laying the foundation for his future success in both soccer and track and field.
