Lindsey Jacobellis is an American snowboarder and one of the most accomplished female snowboard cross athletes in the world. Jacobellis competed in her first X Games at age 15 and joined the U.S. Snowboarding Team by age 17. Her rapid progression in the sport made her a top competitor from a young age, setting the foundation for her long and successful career. Jacobellis is a multi-time gold medalist at the FIS Snowboarding World Championships and an Olympic gold medalist, achieving her first at the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022. She is also one of the most decorated athletes in X Games history.
Born in Danbury, Connecticut, she grew up spending much of her childhood in southern Vermont at her family’s weekend home. Initially a skier, Jacobellis transitioned to snowboarding at the age of eight after a fire destroyed her ski equipment. She was introduced to the sport by her older brother, Ben, who was also a professional snowboarder. She had a competitive spirit from the start, pushing herself to keep up with her brother and father on the mountain.
Jacobellis attended the college preparatory academy, Stratton Mountain School in Vermont, which focused on training winter athletes and graduated in 2003. As the only girl racing in snowboard cross, she accredits the male-dominated discipline for fueling her competitiveness and approach to the sport. Outside of competition, Jacobellis enjoys surfing, sewing, gardening and cooking. She is passionate about mentoring young athletes and promoting women's participation in snowboarding. She has been involved in events like the Super Girl Snow Pro Competition, where she has both competed and encouraged the next generation of snowboarders.
