Originally born in Budapest, Hungary, Vandracsek moved to Phoenix when he was a few months old. He attended Paradise Valley Community College from 2005 to 2008 earning two Associate Degrees in Education and Psychology. He enrolled at Baylor University with a major in General Studies but dropped his final semester to compete in bobsled. He plans to return to Baylor in spring or fall of 2010 to finish his degree. While attending Paradise Valley and Baylor, Vandracsek competed in 60 and 100 meter hurdles, and represented Baylor at the Big 12 Indoor and Outdoor Championships in 2008 and 2009. Outside of bobsledding, he enjoys painting, riding his motorcycle, and spending time with his family.

Laszlo Vandracsek began the sport of bobsled in 2009 as a push athlete. Not knowing how he could continue his career in track and field after his eligibility was over in May, Vandracsek had a conversation with his parents to discuss his options. His mother suggested he should try bobsled. He later went on the USBSF website and signed up for the rookie camp. After a strong performance at the U.S. Team Trials, the coaches selected Vandrascek to be on the World Cup roster.
