2008 USA half-marathon champion; 3rd in 10,000 at 2004 Olympic Trials; 2004 Olympian; Two-time NCAA Northeast Region Runner of the Year (02 & 03); 2002 NCAA Championships runner-upONeill enters the Olympic year fresh off her first national title, the 2008 half-marathon championship on the roads … had her best ever result at a U.S. track championship with her third-place finish in the 10,000m at the 2004 U.S. Olympic Trials. That performance was no surprise, since earlier in the year she had set a personal bests at 5,000 and 10,000 meters. She also was the top 8 km finisher for Team USA at the 2004 World XC Championships (15th). She became the first Yale alum to compete in an Olympic Games distance event since Frank Shorter ran the marathon in 1972 and 1976, receiving gold and silver medals respectively. ONeill, who was one of the strongest female distance runners in the Ivy League was a standout collegian at Yale, and holds the school records in both the indoor and outdoor 3 km, 5 km, and 10 km...named the 2003 NCAA Woman of the Year for Connecticut, ONeill graduated from Yale in 2003 with distinction as a history major with a 3.63 GPA...twin sister Laura also competed for Yale and finished 7th in the 10,000m (33:04.23) at the 2004 Olympic Trials.
