Personal:

  • Hobbies: spending time with friends and family, baking, reading, hiking and exploring
  • Quote: "Never let the feat of striking out keep you from playing the game." - Babe Ruth
  • How'd you get started? Through the 1996 Olympic Legacy Program at Lanier Canoe and Kayak Club. In 1996, my family was a host family to the parents of the Swiss women's K-4. They introduced me to the sport, and seeing their daughter win the silver medal at the Olympics made me want to start paddling.
  • Role Model: Shelley Oates-Wilding has been very influential and a big part of what I have accomplished in this sport. She has an unwavering passion for paddling that is contagious. She is such a positive person, and she always believes and sees the best in everyone. She's taught me so much about how to be a champion person as well as a champion athlete.
  • Trivia: I love 80s aerobics gear!
  • Twitter: http://twitter.com/emilymickle

I started paddling in 1997 as part of the Atlanta 1996 Olympic Legacy Program at the Lanier Canoe and Kayak Club. I made my first junior national team in 2003 and first senior national team in 2006. My favorite thing about the sport is the thrill of racing and the people I have met because of paddling. I also enjoy pushing myself to test my body's capabilities and striving to be the best in the world.
