The U.S. B-boys competed in France today for the second half of breaking competition at the Olympic Games Paris where Victor Montalvo secured a bronze medal in the event. Both Montalvo and Jeffrey Louis had impressive runs in the competition and represented the United States breaking culture spectacularly on the world stage. With so many rounds of battles, Victor and Jeff were forced to get creative and show expansive vocabulary to maintain a competitive edge in a stacked field.

B-boy Jeffro started his campaign on fire with dynamic performances that had the crowd electrified. His personality shined through, and he finished first in Group C with victories against B-boys Lee, Hongten and Lagaet. The Houston native met familiar opponent Danny Dann from France in the quarterfinals where the scores came down to the wire. Jeffro concluded his first Olympic appearance with a fifth place standing.

Victor faced tough competition in the group stage, with Group A stacked with Asian powerhouses from Japan and China. Despite an early loss to kick off the day, Victor battled back and displayed impressive athleticism and power moves to finish at the top of the group and advance to quarterfinals where he went 1-1 to earn placement in the bronze medal battle. Victor battled against Japan’s Shigekix for a spot on the first Olympic B-boy podium and was successful, earning a bronze medal representing the stars and stripes. Dany Dann from France and Phil Wizard from Canada rounded out the podium.

We’ve been on this Olympic journey for the past four years and it feels so surreal that it’s here and it’s over. We made history, and I’m the first-ever Olympic bronze medalist in breaking. I’m so grateful to be here experiencing it. I hope we made an impact and new eyes on this sport help it continue to grow.
