U.S. Bgirls Logistx and Sunny Conclude Olympic Run in Paris
by Alyssa Jacobs, USOPC Communications
The breaking competition at the Olympic Games Paris began today. The women kicked off the sport’s Olympic debut at La Concorde where 16 of the world’s best bgirls faced off to earn the title of Olympic Breaking Champion. The U.S. was represented by Sunny Choi (Bgirl Sunny) and Logan Edra (Bgirl Logistx) who battled with their own unique flairs to earn a spot in quarterfinals. Unfortunately, both athletes fell short of making it out of their groups by just one placement.
Sunny faced a particularly difficult group stage ending behind Bgirl India from Netherlands and Bgirl 671 from China. She finished ahead of Bgirl Vanessa from Portugal in Group A thanks to a decisive victory in their head-to-head battle. Sunny closes out her Olympic Games run with a 12th place standing.
Logan narrowly missed her opportunity in quarterfinals, tying in votes with host country’s Bgirl Syssy but missing her ticket to the next round comparatively. In the final battle against Syssy, Logistx pulled out all the stops and impressed the crowd with her confident essence and acrobatic highlights. However, the battle was still too close to push her into the next round of competition. From Group B, both Syssy and Bgirl Nicka from Lithuania advanced to compete in the quarterfinals. Logistx earned a tenth-place finish in Paris.
Even though the pair’s Olympic journey was shorter than hoped, the entire U.S. Olympic Breaking Team has echoed similar feelings about what the opportunity at the 2024 Olympic Games means for the overall community.
I think all of us here understand that we wouldn't be here without the culture and without the community that started all of this. We all kind of try to pay respect to where we're coming from and want to put some of that shine back onto the community as we go onto this Olympic stage. It could be as small as somebody's mom in Montana that wants to put their kid into breaking or it could be corporate sponsorships that pour money into our community. Whatever that looks like, we are grateful to be here
