LILLEHAMMER, NORWAY (February 12, 2023)- USABS made history as the IBSF Para Sport World Cup season concluded today with the best overall finish for a USA Para Bobsled team in the history of the nation’s participation in the sport.
Will Castillo finished first overall in the entire Para Sport tour and incredibly, every single one of his fellow teammates also finished within the top 10, with Bob Balk finishing 4th, Austin Parker finishing 6th and David Christopher finishing 9th.
“What an incredible season, I am a product of all the great people around me!” Castillo shared about his amazing finish.
In more exciting news over at the IBSF World Cup in Innsbruck, Austria this weekend, 18-year-old Hallie Clarke capped off an exceptional sliding season by finishing 2nd in Women’s Skeleton with a time of 1:46.63.
“It feels great to end my World Cup debut season the same way I started it!” Clarke shared. “Finishing strong with another silver medal was really exciting and I'm looking forward to what is to come”.
On February 11th, Castillo finished 4th with a time of 1:52.78 while Balk finished 5th with a time of 1:52.80, Parker finished 8th with a time of 1:53.64 and Christopher finished 9th with a time of 1:54.60. Balk finished 4th on February 12th with a time of 1:52.93. Castillo finished 6th with a time of 1:53.17 while Parker and Christopher finished 8th and 9th with times of 1:53.21 and 1:53.91, respectively.
Joining Clarke in Women’s Skeleton news, Kelly Curtis placed 13th this weekend with her 1:47.07 finish and Kendall Wesenberg finished 18th with her 1:47.70 finish. In Men’s Skeleton, Austin Florian finished 13th with a time of 1:44.36 and Andrew Blaser finished 16th with a time of 1:44.64.
In Bobsledding updates, Kaillie Humphries gave a formidable performance again this weekend, earning her another medal for her 4th place finish in Women’s Monobob with a time of 1:49.45. She remains the overall leader in points for Monobob in the IBSF rankings. Additionally, along with teammate Kaysha Love, she earned the title of fastest start in 2-Woman Bobsled this weekend with a start time of 5.52. Joining her in Monobob, Nicole Vogt placed 11th with a time of 1:51.59 and Riley Compton finished 14th with a time of 1:51.94.
2-Woman Bobsled brought more action, with Humphries and Love placing 4th with their 1:45.31 finish. Vogt and Jasmine Jones placed 10th with a time of 1:46.56 while Compton and Emily Renna placed 11th with their 1:47.46 finish.
The World Cup in Innsbruck this weekend featured back-to-back days of 4-Man Bobsled on the 11th and 12th. The 11th brought an 18th-place finish for Geoffrey Gadbois, Carsten Vissering, Freddie Harris, and Paul Rabic and an unfortunate disqualification of Frankie Del Duca, Manteo Mitchell, Martin Christofferson, and Adrian Adams after their sled was determined to be overweight. Luckily, on the 12th, Team Del Duca was able to compete, earning an 8th-place finish with their time of 1:41.06. Team Gadbois finished in 17th place with a time of 1:42.28.
The IBSF World Cup will continue on February 17th in Sigulda, Latvia.
