USABS TACKLES THE FIRST WEEKEND OF THE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS

ST. MORITZ, SWITZERLAND (January 29, 2023) - The first weekend of the IBSF World Championships brought tough competition and beautiful scenery as athletes from all over the world took on the uniquely hand-made design of the iconic Swiss track. 

In Women’s Monobob, Kaillie Humphries earned a silver medal with a combined four-run time of 4:45.25. 

“Today was a good day,” Humphries shared when asked about her second-place finish. “I made an equipment change between yesterday (heats 1 and 2)  and today (heats 3 and 4). I changed my runners to try and give myself a bit more control. Overall, I am happy with my performance even though it wasn’t perfect, but I learned a lot and am excited for the 2-Woman Bobsled going into next week.”

In Women’s Skeleton, Hallie Clarke finished 10th with her final time of 4:36.35, a formidable finish for the 18-year-old at her first IBSF World Championships. 

“I couldn't be happier with how my first World Championships went,” Clarke elaborated. “The last time I raced in St.Moritz was for the Youth Olympics, and seeing how much I've improved was really special”.

Also in Women’s Skeleton, Kendall Wesenberg finished 13th with her time of 4:37.72 and Kelly Curtis finished 20th with a time of 4:39.49. In Men’s Skeleton, Austin Florian finished 19th with a time of 4:35.08. Andrew Blaser and Dan Barefoot placed 25th with a time of 3:27.25 and 26th with a time of 3:28.17 after three runs, respectively. In the Skeleton Mixed Team competition, Clarke and Blaser placed 8th with a combined run time of 2:26.66 while Curtis and Florian placed 12th with their time of 2:27.37. 

In more bobsled news, Nicole Vogt placed 17th with her combined run time of 4:53.61 and Riley Compton placed 19th with her total time of 4:54.87 in Women’s Monobob. In 2-Man Bobsled, Geoffrey Gadbois and Martin Christofferson placed 18th with a four-run time of 4:26.86. Unfortunately, Frankie Del Duca and Hakeem Adbul-Saboor crashed in the third heat but placed 26th with a three-run time of 3:31.45.

Next weekend, the action will continue at the IBSF World Championships with Para Bobsled on February 2-3, 2-Women Bobsled on February 3-4, and finally 4-Man Bobsled on February 4-5.
