Peter Vidmar is an American former gymnast and one of the highest scoring American gymnasts in Olympic history. Born in Los Angeles, Vidmar competed for the UCLA men’s gymnastics team, where he won five NCAA titles and the 1983 Nissen Award, which is awarded to the nation’s top collegiate gymnast. He competed at the Olympic Games Los Angeles 1984, winning two gold medals in the team all-around competition and pommel horse event, while also earning silver in the individual all-around. Vidmar captained the U.S. Olympic Men’s Gymnastics Team during the 1984 Games, a team that would be inducted into the U.S. Olympic Hall of Fame in 2006 due to its gold-medal effort, the first in U.S. men’s Gymnastics history. Vidmar worked as a television commentator for CBS Sports and ESPN, as well as a motivational speaker upon retiring from Gymnastics. He remained active within the Olympic and Paralympic movements, serving as chairman of the U.S. Gymnastics Board of Directors in 2008 and as the co-chairman of the United States Olympic Committee Summer Sports Summit.
