Learned competitive swimming from uncle, who ran a ran school in Florida...Initially was passionate about football, but was too small to play and joined the swim team instead...Moved to California to train at the Santa Clara Swim Club as a teenager...Wrote two books, “Deep Water” and “Inside Swimming” in 1971 and 1974...His gold medals are on display to the public at a local bank in downtown Lake Oswego...Father to three children: Jeb, Kyle and Katie.

Don Schollander is a eight-time Olympic medalist and former world-record holder in four swimming events. Born in Charlotte, North Carolina, he made his first Olympic team at age 18. He won four gold medals at the Olympic Games Tokyo 1964, the most won by an American since Jesse Owens in 1936. That year, Schollander received the James E. Sullivan Award as the top amateur athlete in the country and was named the Associated Press athlete of the year. He would captain the Yale College swim team and win three individual NCAA championships before winning four more medals at the Mexico City 1968 Games. Schollander wrote two books after retiring from competitive Swimming and ran his own real estate development company.
