About Walter
While Davis is a national champion in both horizontal jumps, he didn’t start out in track & field. He was an all-state basketball player who joined the track team his junior year of high school. Davis is the first U.S. Olympian from Barton County Community College in any sport. He made the 2000 Olympic roster in both the triple jump and long jump but chose to compete in only the triple jump in Sydney. He was part of the LSU men’s team that won the 2002 NCAA Outdoor crown and received the invitation to visit the White House for its success. Davis presented President Bush with an LSU warm-up. Also in 2002, Davis posted five of the top six triple jumps by Americans.
