Biographical Information

Sha'Carri Richardson is an American track and field sprinter, specializing in the 100-meter and 200-meter events. She was raised by her grandmother and aunt, who supported her early interest in Track and Field. Richardson graduated from Carter High School, where she earned two Texas state titles. Her rise to fame began during her freshman year at Louisiana State University.

An advocate for the LGBTQ+ community, Richardson takes to social media to show her support for important social issues.

Olympic Highlights

She delivered a remarkable performance in the 2020 U.S. Olympic trials, securing her spot on the U.S. Olympic team, but ultimately did not compete in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

After a strong performance in the qualifying events, Sha’Carri made her Olympic debut at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games where she won a silver medal in the 100m event. Most notably, she ran anchor in the 4x100m relay final, achieving an impressive come-from-behind win, passing two athletes to win the gold.

World Championship Highlights

At the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary, Richardson claimed her first gold in the 100m sprint with a time of 10.65 seconds and secured a bronze in the 200m sprint with a time of 21.92 seconds. She was also a crucial member of Team USA's gold-winning 4x100m relay team.

U.S. Championship Highlights

In July 2023, Richardson triumphed at the USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, becoming the national champion in the 100m sprint with a time of 10.82 seconds. 

Early Career

Richardson won the 100m event at the AAU Junior Olympics in 2016 and the USATF Junior Olympics in 2017. The same year, she had her international debut at the Pan American U20 Athletics Championships and won gold in the 4x100m relay.

At Louisiana State University, Richardson was a finalist in the NCAA Division I Indoor Championships in 2019. There, she broke two world records in the 100m and 200m events. She also surpassed Allyson Felix's 2004 Olympic record in the 200m event and claimed second place in the 4x100m relay.

Richardson went pro after the NCAA Championships and trained under former Olympic sprinter Dennis Mitchell.
