Biography | |
Townsend is the son of Frost Townsend, and he has an older sister, Tiffany. He considers the family of teammate Todd Thornton to be his "guardian family." Townsend was a member of the 2001 World Championship Team that earned an unprecedented silver medal, and he received the first individual medal for the U.S. men since 1979 when he became the world parallel bars champion. Townsend was a Sullivan Award finalist in 2001. He became interested in gymnastics from watching the 1988 Olympic Games. Townsend enjoys playing golf and poker, and going out with friends in his spare time. He is a big fan of the Dallas Cowboys. | |
