Personal

Scott Meyer grew up playing ice hockey for 15 years and dreaming of one day competing against the best in the world. But his dream took a detour when he was 19-years-old. While working unloading cargo from semi-trucks, he was pinned between the loading dock and a semi-truck. Meyer suffered a lumbar spinal cord injury and underwent nearly 100 surgeries in the two years following his accident.

It may not be ice hockey, but now Meyer is competing against the best in the world in alpine skiing. He has been competitive on the international stage since 2010 but will make his Paralympic Winter Games debut in Sochi. Off the snow, Meyer is interested in science and the culinary arts. He also enjoys traveling, something he gets to fulfill each winter during the world cup season.
