Sara Luna
Sara does Judo at three dojos each week (Menomonee Judo, Davis Square Park, Walter Payton College Prep). She has been in Judo for six years. Sara has a great attitude and tons of potential to go very far in Paralympic Judo. Over the last two years she has earned silver medals at four major national and international tournaments. The tournaments were the 2013 Para Pan American Judo Championships (for adults), the U.S. International Judo Championships (also for adults) and the World Youth and Student Judo Championships (under 21). Last May, she took the silver medal at the USA Judo National Championships in the 63kg division. She only lost to 2012 Paralympian, Cristella Garcia. She followed that performance with another silver medal last November at the USA Judo National Presidents Cup in Irving, TX. Sara beat Garcia in her first match. She also won two gold medals at the 12th annual Wolf Junior and Paralympic Judo tournament in 2013. Based on her performance, she was awarded the Sensei Dick Fukuyama Memorial Inspiration Award (out of 125 participants). She uses a nice variety of standing techniques, solid mat work and good conditioning to best her opponents. Sara is a prime contender to represent the United States at both the 2015 Para Pan American Games (Toronto, May 2015) as well as sports grandest stage, the Paralympic Games. If she doesn't qualify for Rio 2016, she is fully expected to be primed for Tokyo 2020.
