Porteous began sailing at age 7 when he was enrolled in the Junior Sailing Program at the Mission Bay Yacht Club. In October of 2011, Porteous slipped on a dock, resulting in the breaking of his neck that caused almost complete paralysis. His tenacious character and will has allowed him to regain most of his upper body strength and he has started to rebuild movement in his lower extremities....Son of John and Kristy Porteous…Has one brother, Scott…Hobbies include surfing, bike riding, swimming, rugby, tennis and paddle boarding…Graduated second in his high school class at Mission Bay and was named the school’s Male Athlete of the Year in 2011…Returned to sailing after his accident through Challenged America…First qualified for the U.S. Sailing Team in 2013.
