With Karate’s Olympic Future Uncertain, Sakura Kokumai Eyes Strong Showing At Pan Am Games
Kokumai, a 2020 Olympian, will go from the world championships in Hungary right to Chile for the Pan Am Games.

I started karate at the age of 6....I have made the team 3 times. The first two were in the 16-17 -61kg kumite and the most recent has been in the 18-20 -60kg kumite division....The heros in my life are definitely my parents. Since day 1, they have supported me throughout the entirity of my Karate journey. They have sacrificed their time, money, attention and so much more because they have always known, that I would be able to do something special in the sport. Thank you mom, thank you dad, for making me the young man I am today and without you guys I wouldn't be in the position I am today....My biggest win was at this past nationals where I fought three tough matches against great competitiors and ultimately won the gold in my respective weight and age category...I love the excitement and rush of adrenaline that I get when I step on to the mat....One steo at a time, one punch at a time, one round at a time" - Rocky BalboaCareer Highlights
