  • In April 2008, one of Weggemann’s sisters took her to the University of Minnesota to watch the U.S. Team Trials for the Paralympic Games Beijing 2008 and was inspired to get back into swimming
  • A few months before, she received a series of epidural injections in her back to treat shingles
  • After the third she lost movement from the waist down
  • Daughter of Ann and Chris Weggemann and has two older sisters, Christin and Jessica, and one brother-in-law, Sean
  • Hobbies include traveling, scuba diving, spending time with friends and family, and enjoying the outdoors and athletics
  • Led delegates in the Pledge of Allegiance at the 2016 Democratic National Convention
  • Won the 2011 Best Female Athlete with a Disability ESPY Award
  • Three-time Disabled Athlete of the Year by USA Swimming (2009, 2010, 2011)
  • Named the Female Disabled Swimmer of the Year of 2009 and 2010 by Swimming World Magazine
  • She was a part of SwimSwam.com's broadcast team during the 2014 Pan Pacific Championships
  • She suffered an arm injury in March 2014, which stopped her from competing at the 2014 Pan Pacific Championships
