Personal
Widhalm, a former collegiate-level wrestler, is no stranger to the elite sports world. As a U.S. Army sniper on his second deployment to Iraq in 2006, he suffered severe injuries due to multiple concussions from IED blasts, and a drop from a helicopter. With the introduction of cycling into his rehabilitation, Widhalm’s condition began to improve. He started on a handcycle in 2009, which he was told would be as far as he would go. Fueled by passion, the lifelong athlete set out to prove the experts wrong. Widhalm worked tirelessly to improve his neuro-muscular and balance problems. He competed in his first Track Cycling National Championships in 2010 placing third. Since then, he has competed at multiple world championships and continues to improve on the national and international level. ......Son of Dale and Brenda Widhalm…Has two brothers, Jacob and Conner… Has two children, Conner and Londyn…Married to Jennifer Lynn Widhalm…Hobbies include spending time with his family, cross-country skiing, inspiring others, discovering his true potential, mentoring others and ice bathing…Enjoys shooting as a way of relaxation and to help calm his nerves…Was a national wrestling champion in high school… Named after the lead singer Justin Hayward of Moody Blues.
