Q&A WITH MARTINEZ
What does it mean for you to represent the United States? "It means a lot to represent the U.S. because it's something that not everyone gets to do so it's an honor to be able to put on the uniform and compete."
What do you most enjoy about softball? "Baseball can tend to be so tense that it becomes unenjoyable but when I'm on the softball field, I'm always loose and enjoying myself."
How did you get started playing softball? "My father played softball when he was younger and naturally my older brothers and I started to play."
Who were your softball role models growing up? "As a kid, I watched my oldest brother Anthony play a lot and he was one of the best players around when I was a kid. He was a great pitcher as well as a good hitter so I knew if I played softball, I could be like him."
Did you play any other sports growing up? "Baseball and football"
What non-softball sport would you like to try? "I always felt like I could be good at tennis."
