PERSONAL

Cochran is the latest in a long line of skiing Cochrans; his grandfather was the U.S. head coach in 1974, his dad and three aunts were Olympians and he has three relatives currently on the U.S. Ski Team. His family owns Cochran's ski resort in Vermont. He studied mechanical engineering at the University of Vermont and made his own name on the international scene in 2008, finishing eighth in a tough slalom race in Italy and getting doused with champagne by teammate Ted Ligety.

DID YOU KNOW...?

  • Bet his ski tech, Bernie, that he would quit smoking when he wins his first World Cup race
  • Ping pong aficionado among skiers on the World Cup circuit
  • Aunt Barbara Ann invented the "lean start" and won the Giant Slalom at the 1972 Olympic Winter Games
