Personal
Wagner joined the U.S. Army Reserves in 2000...Just after returning from a tour in Iraq in 2007, Sergeant Wagner was in a motorcycle accident that left him paralyzed below the waist due to spinal cord injury. Wagner, a Nānākuli, Hawaii, native, traveled to the Palo Alto VA Medical Center’s Spinal Cord Injury Center in California for treatment shortly after his injury. It was there that he discovered the VA’s National Veterans Wheelchair Games, in which he competed in alpine skiing in 2010. At the Games, Wagner met with Rob Rosser, a U.S. Paralympics Nordic Skiing National Team coach, who convinced him to come to Colorado to train full-time...Wagner made his first U.S. Paralympics Nordic Skiing National Team in June 2012 and was part of the five-member U.S. team, made up solely of military veterans, that competed at the 2013 International Paralympic Committee Nordic Skiing World Championships in Sweden...Son of Henry and Helena Wagner...Has seven siblings: Jacey, Janelle, Jasmine, Jennifer, Jessica, Jonathan and Joshua...Has one son...Off the snow, Wagner enjoys welding metal (his profession prior to injury), learning about car mechanics, cooking, outrigger canoeing, playing the ukulele and cheering for his hometown University of Hawaii Rainbow Wahine.
