Lifting weights has always been a major part of Schrom’s life and proved the sport is more than just a hobby after winning gold at the 2015 IPC Open Americas Championships...Learned about Paralympic powerlifting while attending Penn State University through an organization called Ability Athletics, which supports and funds student athletes with physical disabilities...One day while working for his family landscaping company, the brakes failed on the truck he was driving and was thrown out of the window. Consequently, the truck rolled over twice and then landed on his legs...As a result, his right leg had to be amputated above the knee, but he has not let that slow him down...An avid outdoors enthusiast, he also enjoys skiing, golfing and hunting...Has worked as a trained peer visitor with the Amputee Support Team of Central Pennsylvania...He founded the Nittany Valley Amputee Support Group at Pennsylvania State University.Paralympic Experience
