Son of Bernard and Philista Koech...Has two brothers, Emmanuel and Julius, who both ran at the University of Alabama...He and his brothers gained American citizenship by joining the U.S. Army...Is currently a sergeant serving at Fort Carson in Colorado Springs, Colorado...While serving on different bases, he and his brothers teamed up to win the All Armed Forces Cross-Country Championships in February 2016...Received a scholarship to Iowa State University in 2007
