Began swimming at age 8 because it looked fun, and to this day feels that way about the sport
• Diagnosed with bone cancer at age 11, resulting in the partial amputation of her left leg
• Met Paralympic swimming legend Jessica Long at a swim clinic, and Long encouraged Nelson to come to her first Para meet
• Made her first national team and world championships team in 2023
• Favorite stroke is freestyle, but once held an SCY American record in breaststroke
• Outside of the pool, enjoys weightlifting, cooking, traveling to sunny places
• Makes her own jewelry, including bracelets
• Has two dogs, Jazz and Chip
• Lists favorite foods as salmon and rice, sweet potatoes in any form and steak
