Garrett first took to the slopes on skis but quickly switched to snowboarding and fell in love with the sport. ...At 16-years-old, Garrett was involved in a life-threatening car accident which resulted in serious injuries to both his legs…In order to save his life, his left leg was amputated at the scene, whilst his right leg is supported with pins and a titanium rod…Eager to keep sport in his life after his accident, Garrett researched the Paralympics and decided to pursue Snowboarding…He started - and continues to train - with Adaptive Action Sports with Daniel Gale and Amy Purdy…He has now been racing for three years and considers it to be one of the best decisions of his life…Garrett's family is made up of Dave (father), Jordan (stepmom), Jennifer (mother), Gavin (brother) and Savanah Payne (sister)…His sporting hero is his father…His hobbies include competitive freestyle wakeboarder, skateboarding, mountain biking, dirt bike riding, wake surfing and tumbling…Garrett has Tourette Syndrome and his nicknames are BeeBop and The Grenade…In three words Garrett would describe himself as motivated, caring and hyper…His favorite thing about his sport is the feeling of freedom he gets when on the snowboard and his most memorable sporting moment was his first ever World Cup podium finish, where he felt overwhelmed with excitement.
