Emily Sisson is an accomplished American long-distance runner recognized for her strong performances on the track and road. Sisson has consistently been among the top competitors in marathon events globally.
Sisson was introduced to running at a young age. She showed early promise as a distance runner, setting multiple high school records and earning a scholarship to Providence College.
Sisson is known for her disciplined training and strong work ethic. She’s active on social media, where she shares insights into her training and racing experiences. Sisson’s parents Mark and Nancy Sisson both share backgrounds in sports, helping her develop her love for competitive athletics.
Emily Sisson made her Olympic debut at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. During the 2020 U.S. Olympic Trials, Sisson won the 10,000-meter race and set a meet record. During the Olympic Final, she finished 10th with a time of 31:09.58.
In 2024, she placed second in the marathon at the U.S. Olympic Trials, qualifying for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. At the Paris 2024 Games, Sisson finished 23rd overall in the Women’s marathon with a time of 2:29.53.
Sisson competed in the 2017 World Athletics Championships in London, in the 10,000-meter event. She finished in 9th place with a time of 31:26.36. In the same event in the 2019 World Athletics Championships in Doha, Qatar, Sisson finished in 10th place with a time of 31:12.56.
The year 2019 proved to be transformative for Sisson, as she continued her stellar year by winning the U.S. Half Marathon Championship with a time of 1:07:26 and dominating the Stanford Invitational in Palo Alto with a commanding performance of 30:49.57. Her momentum continued into 2022, where she showcased her marathon prowess by winning the U.S. Marathon Championship during the Chicago Marathon.
Emily Sisson's impressive athletic career began to take shape during her collegiate years at Providence College, where she captured the 2015 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championship in the 5,000-meter. The following year, she elevated her status in American distance running by claiming her first U.S. title in the 10,000-meter at the USA Track & Field Championships.
