• Selected by the Minnesota North Stars as the 8th overall draft pick in the 1990 NHL entry draft
• Moved with the North Stars to Dallas in 1993, and led the team to a Stanley Cup Championship during the 1998-99 season
• Signed with the Detroit Red Wings in 2003, and then with his current team, the Philadelphia Flyers in August 2005
• Played with brother, Kevin, for two seasons with the Dallas Stars, and also on the 1998 U.S. Olympic Team
• Derian and Kevin own a bar/restaurant called Hatchy's in Utica, MI
