Fun Facts: Oldest of three daughters of Donald and Barbara (Hobelmann) Dedrick... Donald Dedrick
was a noted collegiate golfer… Barbara Hobelmann, Dale’s mother, was an elite swimmer
for the United States winning two national titles at 400m and 1500m… Barbara was a
three time All-American and a world record holder in the 400m… In 1951, Barbara graced
the cover of Life Magazine… Dale’s grandmother, who rode in the Calgary Stampede,
originally influenced Dale’s interest in dressage… Following college and medical school,
Dale’s residency began at the University of Michigan and her interest in dressage began
to evolve… During her orthopedic residency, she worked as an emergency room faculty
for two years… Residency highlights include flying on the University of Michigan Survival
Flight helicopter service... Upon graduating from the residency program, she maintained
a faculty position performing surgery and research… Dale was diagnosed with Lupus
during her time at the University of Michigan causing her multiple joint deformities, muscle
weakness of an inflammatory nature, and significant heart disease… Dale retired in 1992 as
an Assistant Professor of Surgery and Internal Medicine… Hobbies beyond horses include
sewing and cooking… Speaks Spanish.
