With his fifth-place finish in the 400 meters at the 2008 U.S. Olympic Trials - Track & Field, Calvin Smith, Jr., a 20-year old University of Florida sophomore, qualified for a spot on the Team USA 4x400m relay pool for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. Halfway through his college track and field career, Smith, the 2007 SEC Freshman Runner of the Year, has earned three All-America distinctions and is the 2007 SEC Outdoor champion at 400 meters. A prep star at Cardinal Gibbons HS in Raleigh, N.C., Smith's best high school sprint times were 10.62 in 100m, 21.17 in 200m and 46.17 in 400m ... 2006 USA Today All-USA High School team selection ... 2006 Tampa Tribune Boys Track & Field Runner of the Year ...
