Caeleb Dressel is an American swimmer and Olympian known for the 100-meter freestyle and 100m butterfly. He has broken numerous world records and earned many gold medals in both events.
Dressel comes from a family of swimmers. He began swimming at a young age and quickly showed promise in the sport. He attended Clay High School in Green Cove Springs, where he set multiple national high school records.
Outside of swimming, Dressel enjoys fishing and spending time outdoors. He has been open about the mental challenges of competing at an elite level, advocating for athlete mental health awareness.
During the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, Dressel secured gold medals in both the 4x100m freestyle relay and 4x100m medley relay. In the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, Dressel claimed five gold medals: in the individual 100m freestyle, 100m butterfly, and 50m freestyle events, as well as the 4x100m freestyle relay and 4x100m medley relay. At the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, Dressel won gold medals in both the 4x100m freestyle relay and 4x100m mixed medley relay, along with a silver medal in the 4x100m medley relay.
At the 2017 world championships in Budapest, Dressel won seven gold medals, matching Michael Phelps' record for the most gold medals won at a single world championships. At the 2019 world championships in Gwangju, he secured six gold medals and two silver medals. Dressel then went on to earn two gold medals at the 2022 world championships in Budapest.
His collegiate career at the University of Florida was marked by numerous NCAA titles and record-breaking performances. During his time as a Gator, Dressel developed into one of the most dominant collegiate swimmers in history, setting the stage for his international success.
Dressel turned professional after the 2018 NCAA Championships, ending his collegiate career on a high note and transitioning seamlessly into full-time professional swimming.
