Bill is a relative newcomer to biathlon, having been a competitive cross-country skiier for most of his life. He graduated from Northern Michigan University in 2008 with a B.A. in Economics, and competed for the ski team there for 4 years. After graduating, Bill became a resident at the Olympic Training Center in Lake Placid, NY as part of the National Development Team. His first season as a full-time biathlete in 2008-2009 ended well with a victory at the U.S. National Championships.
