(L-R) Alison Weisz, Mary Tucker and Sagen Maddalena celebrate with their silver medals following the women's air rifle team event at the 2022 ISSF World Championship on Oct. 16, 2022 in Cairo.

After making history Friday as the first U.S. woman to win a rifle world championship since 1979, Ali Weisz added another medal to her haul Sunday as she and the U.S. women’s air rifle team claimed second place in Cairo.
Olympians Sagen Maddalena, Mary Tucker and Weisz advanced to the gold-medal match against China, which upended the Americans by a score of 16-12.
The silver medal was the first of the world championships for the U.S. and its fourth overall medal, including junior events.
Tucker won a silver medal for the second straight year in a global championship. She also finished runner-up in the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 with Lucas Kozeniesky in mixed team air rifle.
Weisz will go after another medal Monday, when she competes in the 10-meter mixed team air rifle event with Will Shaner.
The podium finish was the first medal for the U.S. in women’s team air rifle at the world championships since 2010. It’s also the best performance for the U.S. since 1990, when Team USA won its last gold medal in the event.
China extended its lead atop the world championships medal table with its 13th gold medal and 22nd medal overall. China also topped last year’s medal table at the Olympic Games.
