Evy Leibfarth Captures Silver in Women’s Slalom Canoe World Cup Event

Evy Leibfarth admitted she was excited to climb into her canoe and race this weekend at a world cup in Ljubljana-Tacen, Slovenia. 
Once she got on the water, the 18-year-old from Bryson City, North Carolina, maintained her composure and avoided any costly mistakes. 
Leibfarth earned the silver medal in the women’s slalom canoe competition Sunday, posting a time of 1 minute, 38.27 seconds in the final to cap a busy weekend for the teenager. 
She had a clean run in the final and wasn’t penalized any seconds. As a result, she finished only 1.75 seconds behind England’s Mallory Franklin, who won the gold medal in 1:36.52. Elena Lilik of Germany won the bronze in 1:41.51. 
A day earlier, Leibfarth just missed out on earning a medal in the women’s slalom kayak competition. She advanced to the final and finished fourth in 1:37.90, 3.66 seconds behind gold medalist Jessica Fox of Australia. 
Leibfarth’s time in slalom kayak was less than a second behind both Franklin (1:37.02) for the silver and Ukraine’s Viktoriia Us (1:37.58) for bronze. 
At age 17, Leibfarth made her Olympic debut last summer in Tokyo. She finished 12th in women’s slalom kayak and missed making the final of the event by only two spots. She also placed 18th in women’s slalom canoe.
