Marin Hamill landed her big tricks and looked comfortable as she made her way around the course in Font Romeu, France.
Hamill put together a strong second run and scored 73.56 points to earn the silver medal in women’s freestyle skiing slopestyle at a world cup event Sunday. It was her first podium of the season, which included a seventh place last week at Mammoth Mountain, California.
However, her smooth run wasn’t enough to beat Tess Ledeux on her home turf. The 20-year-old Frenchwoman secured the gold and her fourth career world cup victory at Font Romeu with a big first run of 86.46 points.
American Grace Henderson just missed out on making the podium. She finished fourth after scoring 65.25 points on her second run, less than a point behind bronze medalist Lara Wolf of Austria (66.16).
Hamill, a 20-year-old Park City, Utah native, picked up crucial points in the Olympic qualifying event with her silver-medal finish.
She scored 69.88 points on her first run, then followed it up with a clean second run. She twisted in the air on her jumps and grinded across the rails to secure her spot on the podium.
Ledeux led after the first run, and she was never in jeopardy of losing her lead. She scored 84.36 points on her second run, but it didn’t matter after her strong run to open the world cup stop.
