Missy Franklin And Husband Hayes Johnson Expecting First Child

Calling it her “greatest dream come true,” Missy Franklin Johnson shared the happy news on Instagram Saturday that she and husband Hayes Johnson are expecting their first child.
“Baby Johnson coming in August,” Franklin wrote, alongside a photo of the thrilled expecting parents holding an ultrasound. The news was greeted in the replies with well-wishes from a who’s who of Franklin’s fellow Team USA swimmers, such as Nathan Adrian, Ryan Murphy and Mallory Weggemann. 
Franklin and Johnson, a former college swimmer who competed at two U.S. Olympic Team Trials, were married in September 2019. By then, Franklin was nearly a year into retirement from a decorated career in which she won four Olympic gold medals and three world championship medals before her 18th birthday.
Franklin, 25, burst onto the international swimming scene by winning two medals at the 2010 short course world championships, then the next year won five long course gold medals, three of them gold. Her quick rise to stardom culminated in winning four gold medals and one bronze at the Olympic Games London 2012. Franklin would add eight more world championship gold medals and one more Olympic gold over the next four years. She formally announced her retirement from competitive swimming in December 2019, citing physical and emotional struggles as well as a desire to pursue other dreams, including, she said, becoming a mom.
In retirement, Franklin has stayed involved in her sport as an ambassador for the USA Swimming Foundation, and as a promoter for the Saving Lives Is Always in Season campaign. The program aims to raise awareness of water safety and the importance of swimming lessons for children.
