Jessie Diggins And Rosie Brennan Go 1-2 Again As Tour De Ski Moves To Italy

For the second time in three days, Jessie Diggins and Rosie Brennan have finished 1-2 in a world cup cross-country ski race, this time taking the first two spots in a 10-kilometer freestyle Tuesday is Toblach, Italy.
This comes two days after they finished in the top two spots in a 10K freestyle pursuit Sunday in Val Müstair, Switzerland, marking the first time American women had done that on the cross-country ski world cup. The result also extends their 1-2 lead in the standings for the Tour de Ski, a 10-day, eight-stage competition that is now halfway complete.
Brennan also maintained her lead in the overall world cup standings, while Diggins jumped up two spots to third.
Both skiers have gotten off to a strong start this season but have been especially hot in the Tour de Ski.
Diggins, who in 2018 partnered with Kikkan Randall to win Team USA’s first Olympic gold medal in the sport, has reached the podium in all four stages. She finished third in back-to-back races to open the competition in Val Müstair before claiming her eighth career world cup win in Sunday’s pursuit.
Brennan, who is also a 2018 Olympian, won back-to-back races last month in Davos, Switzerland, and entered the Tour de Ski with the yellow bib as the overall world cup winner, making her just the second U.S. woman to hold that position. She’s maintained it with a pair of top-six finishes followed by two second-place finishes in the Tour de Ski.
Following a rest and travel day on Monday they were back at it today, with Diggins skiing to victory No. 9 in 25:14.5. Brennan was 14.8 seconds behind, followed by Sweden's Ebba Anderson at 22.2 seconds behind.
In 2018 Diggins became the first American to end the Tour de Ski on the podium when she finished third. Now both she and Brennan are in strong position to do so. With four stages to go, Diggins leads the tour standings by 20 seconds, and third-place Frida Karlsson of Sweden 1:02 behind her. No American has won the Tour de Ski.
Racing continues with a women's 10K and men's 15K classic pursuit Wednesday in Toblach, followed by classic mass start and sprint races on Friday and Saturday before the event wraps up with freestyle mass start races Sunday in Val di Fiemme, Italy,
