Richard Totten “Dick” Button is considered one of the best male figure skaters of all time. The first person to successfully land a double axel and a triple jump in
figure skating competition, Button won back-to-back gold medals at the Olympic Winter Games St. Moritz 1948 and Oslo 1952. Button was also the first American to have won the European championships in 1948, and he won five consecutive world championship titles from 1948-52. The New Jersey native has been called the “Voice of Figure Skating” for his commentating work off the ice, and was the first winner of the Emmy Award for Outstanding Sports Personality
