Making Team USA: What to Watch This Month

Follow along Making Team USA, presented by Xfinity, the storytelling and hard-earned journey of Team USA athletes who are competing to earn their spots to the Olympic and Paralympic Games Paris 2024.

What: A new format for the 2024 Olympic quad, the Olympic Qualifier Series (OQS), will be the sole qualification opportunity for skateboarding and BMX freestlye, and the last chance qualifier for breaking and sport climbing. A two-part series, OQS Shanghai will be the first of two events that count towards qualification for all four sports. Final Olympic qualification will be decided in OQS 2 Budapest.

Where: Shanghai, China

When: May 16-19

Who: Olympians Nyjah Huston, Jagger Eaton, Mariah Duran, Bryce Wettstein, Hannah Roberts and Brooke Raboutou will all be competing in the event, in the attempt to qualify for back-to-back Games. The competition format could also work well for newcomers and Pan American Games medalists Paige Heyn, Taylor Nye and Jeffrey Louis.

Watch: This event will be broadcast by the Olympic Channel here in the preliminary stages and on Peacock for the finals.

What: The Core Hydration Classic is the final competition for elite artistic gymnasts before the 2024 Xfinity U.S. Gymnastics Chamiponships. This event will only be for elite junior and senior women as they look to prepare for the Olympic Trials.

Where: Hartford, Conn.

When: May 17-18

Who: Olympians Simone Biles, Jade Carey, Jordan Chiles and Sunisa Lee will all be attending the competition. In addition, fan favorites Shilese Jones, Trinity Thomas and Leanne Wong will all be making their 2024 elite debut.

What: Comprised of the road race, time trial and criterium, this U.S.-based race will decide multiple athletes for Team USA at the Paris Olympic Games. The winners of the elite men's and women's time trials events will automatically qualify for the Olympic Games.

Where: Charleston, W. Va.

When: May 14-19

Who: Team USA Athetes include Taylor Knibb, Brandon McNulty, Kristen Faulkner, Lauren Stephens, Neilson Powell and more

What: This BMX Racing World Championships will take place back in Rock Hill, South Carolina, after it's debut in 2017. Team USA atheltes Alise Willloughby and Corben Sharrah saw success back in 2017 and clinched both the men's and women's world titles. This time around, the world titles will also provide a qualification ticket to Paris.

Where: Rock Hill, S.C.

When: May 17-18

Who: Alise Willoughby, Felicia Stancil, Kamren Larson and Cameron Wood will all be names to watch as they chase qualification for the Paris Olympic Games.

Brian Taylor, USA Boxing

What: Team USA will send seven athletes to this last chance qualifier, in an attempt to round out their 2024 U.S. Olympic Team. A total of 51 places in the Olympics are up for grabs across an expected pool of 630 athletes.

Where: Bangkok, Thailand

When: May 24-June 2

Who: Although the athletes are still being finalized, fans can expect to see a similar delegation to elite athlete's that competed at the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago and World Qualification Tournament 1 in Italy.

USA Table Tennis

ITTF Americas Olympic Qualification Event

What: This will be the final qualification event for Table Tennis at the Olympic Games. Team USA has yet to quliafy a male ahtlete after failing to secure a team quota at 2023 Worlds. However, that could change this week with multiple Olympians competing.

Where: Lima, Peru

When: May 14- May 18

Who: Kanak Jha and Nikhil Kumar will be representing Team USA

What: A preview to the Paralympic Games, the World Para Athletic Championships Kobe 2024 will see the best of the best travel to Japan to compete.

Where: Kobe, Japan

When: May 17- May 25

Who: Team USA will send the US Para Track and Field National Team to this event. Paralympian Ezra Frech will be looking to defend his world record in Mens T63 High Jump and after a breakout season last year, Jaydin Blackwell will also be back with the hope of keeping up his winning ways
