3x3 BASKETBALL AT THE PAN AM GAMES#

Team USA enters the Pan American Games Santiago 2023 as the defending men’s and women’s 3x3 gold medalists. In 2019, when 3x3 debuted at the Pan American Games Lima 2019, the Americans captured the men’s gold over Puerto Rico (21-19) and the women’s gold against Argentina (21-17).   

The Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 marked 3x3 basketball’s Olympic premiere. The U.S. women won the historic first 3x3 Olympic gold medal over the Russian Olympic Committee (18-15). Stemming from Tokyo 2020, the USA Basketball 3x3 program has experienced tremendous success with recent gold medals at the 2023 FIBA 3x3 World Cup (women) and 2022 FIBA 3x3 AmeriCup (men). 

The U.S. 3x3 men’s roster for the 2023 Pan American Games features Canyon Barry, Jimmer Fredette, Kareem Maddox and Dylan Travis. The quartet represented Team USA at the 2023 FIBA 3x3 World Cup (silver medal), on the 2023 FIBA 3x3 Men’s World Tour as ‘Team Miami,’ at 2023 USA Basketball 3X Nationals and at the 2022 FIBA 3x3 AmeriCup (gold medal, Barry MVP). The U.S. 3x3 women’s roster for the 2023 Pan American Games includes Cierra Burdick, Blake Dietrick, Lexie Hull and Azurá Stevens. Each member of the women’s team has WNBA and 3x3 experience.

USA Basketball fields teams across the FIBA 3x3 ecosystem, including senior and junior national teams, pro circuit and grassroots, to grow the game and position itself for qualification to the Olympic Games. 

Paris 2024: The U.S. will know on Nov. 1, 2023, if their men’s and/or women’s teams are among the first to qualify for the Olympic Games Paris 2024. Eight men’s and women’s teams will make up the field in Paris, with the top two or three countries of each gender earning a competition spot based on FIBA’s Ranking List (points earned by federation’s top 25 players in the 12 months prior to Nov. 1, 2023, at FIBA-endorsed events). The second qualification opportunity includes 16 teams per gender competing in the 2024 FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament (spring 2024) where three spots will be allocated based on results. The final spots for Paris will come via a 2024 FIBA Universality-drive Olympic tournament. 

2023 Pan American Games: Team USA will compete in men’s and women’s 3x3 basketball at the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago. The USA 3x3 Men’s and Women’s National Teams for the 2023 Pan American Games draw from the USA Basketball 3x3 senior national team player pool. The athletes have previous USA Basketball experience, which includes junior or senior national team competition (3x3, 5-on-5), FIBA 3x3 pro circuit (Men’s World Tour, Women’s Series) and USA Basketball 3X Nationals.
